What we store, and why.
Written to be read. No dark patterns, no data brokers, no claims we cannot stand behind.
Information you provide
You can read most of VibeTree without giving us anything. You only share information when you create an account, fill in your profile, send a message or email us.
- Account information — your email address and a password or verification code used to sign in.
- Profile information — display name, age, short bio, profile photo and anything else you choose to add. All of it is optional except a display name, and you control what appears publicly.
- Messages — community chat posts and private messages you send to other members, kept so the conversation is still there when you come back.
- Emails — whatever you write to us when you volunteer, donate, apply to mentor or ask a question.
Technical information, cookies and local storage
Our hosting and backend providers process ordinary technical data such as your IP address, browser type and timestamps in order to serve pages and block abuse.
We use your browser's local storage for things the site needs to remember: your signed-in session, whether you have already seen the overview video popup, and your notification preferences. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
How we use your information
- To create and maintain your member account.
- To show your profile to other members as you have configured it.
- To deliver community and private messages.
- To send you sign-in and verification emails.
- To answer you when you contact us.
- To keep the community safe and respond to reports of abuse.
How your information is protected
Accounts, profiles and messages are stored in a managed database with row-level access rules, so private conversations are readable only by the people in them. The site is served over HTTPS. We take reasonable care, but no online service can promise perfect security, and we do not claim any formal certification or audit.
Third-party services
VibeTree relies on a small number of providers to run: managed hosting, a managed database and authentication service, and email delivery for verification messages. They process data on our behalf to provide those functions.
Some pages embed content from other platforms — for example a YouTube player or a music embed. When you play embedded media, that platform receives the request and applies its own privacy policy.
External links
We link to outside organisations, including community resources such as the Pope Francis Center. Those sites are independent of VibeTree and we are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices.
Your choices and rights
- Edit or clear any profile field at any time from your member area.
- Choose what is publicly visible on your profile.
- Turn browser notifications on or off, and dismiss prompts for good.
- Ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct anything that is wrong.
Account deletion and data retention
Email vibetreebsb@gmail.com from the address on your account and we will delete it, along with your profile. Messages you sent may remain visible to the other participants of a conversation with your name removed, so their record of the conversation stays intact. We keep information only as long as your account is open or as long as needed to handle a safety issue.
Children's privacy
VibeTree is not intended for children. Accounts are for people aged 18 and over. If we learn that an account belongs to a child, we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and the date below it. Significant changes will be announced in the community chat.
